No Kings takes over Clark Street

On Saturday, October 18th, Clark Street in Stevens Point belonged to the No Kings protest. An estimated 1,500 people lined the street in a day of defiance, determined to defend democracy. For two hours, the street was crowded with cars honking their support for the protesters, joining in chants and waving their own signs. Many vehicles circled around and came through several times, creating an unusual traffic jam and near gridlock.

It was a joyous scene, with music, dancing and colorful costumes. There were many inflatable animals and early Halloween costumes, while Uncle Sam and Abe Lincoln also showed up. Despite concerns about violent counter-protesters, the day was peaceful. It was highlighted by the four eagles that circled overhead at the start of the event.

This was one of over 2,700 such events held in all 50 states, which were attended by over seven million people. Wisconsin hosted over 60 events. There were events in Wausau, Wisconsin Rapids, Marshfield and Waupaca, while Hayward, home of Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, had 1,200 participants in a city of 2,500.

Please share this widely, since local media did not cover the event.
