No Kings, October 18
Location: Clark Street, starting at the library parking lot and running east. Use both sides of the street when possible, but stay on the sidewalk. Do not stand between parked cars. If passing cars can’t see you, move east (away from the river) for better visibility. Use the crosswalks at the stoplights for safety. Please avoid lawns of private property.
Time: From 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, but feel free to come when you can and leave when you must.
Parking: The library lot, former ShopKo Lot, the lots west (towards the river) from the former ShopKo, across from the City/County building (on Church St) and street parking south of Clark Street. Note that St. Stephen’s parish, Associated Bank and Sentry have asked we not use their lots.
Amenities: The library will be open. They have restrooms, water and a place to sit and rest.
Bring your friends and family. Clark Street has plenty of room. The more the merrier. This will be the largest single protest in United States history. Indivisible CW have some extra signs and flags, but feel free to bring your own. Some graphics you can use.
Music and dancing is planned, but you can bring bells and other noisemakers to respond to honks. We are also collecting your grievances at a table.
Safety - Indivisible has a guide to safety while protesting, such as how to deal with tear gas. They also have a guide to digital security. These may seem like overkill for peaceful Stevens Point, but it is useful to review them. Protests in Wisconsin Rapids have faced hecklers. Do not engage with them. They often want escalation and might be violent.
Whats next? That’s the subject of a national video conference on Tuesday, October 21 at 7 pm. Sign up at https://www.mobilize.us/nokings/event/858246/ . If you can’t make that, sign up to get a link to watch it later.
If you signed up on Mobilize, but don’t want any emails from us, let us know.
Note: Empty Bowls runs from 11-2. Consider supporting them and their goals. https://emptybowlsportageco.org/
